Steel grade comparison

Put up to four grades side by side and see where their chemistry agrees and where it does not. Useful when a drawing calls for a grade you do not stock and you need to know what is close enough to substitute.

How to read this, and what it is not

What the colours mean. Within each row, a figure is green when it sits within 3% of at least one other grade's figure in that same row, and red when it does not. It is a quick visual for "these two are close" — not a substitution approval.

Minimum and maximum. Each grade shows the specified range for that element. A blank in the source data is shown as —, meaning the standard does not specify that element for that grade — which is not the same as it being absent from the steel.

Chemistry is not the whole story. Two grades with near-identical composition can behave very differently once heat treatment, section size, cleanliness and mechanical requirements are taken into account. Use this to shortlist candidates, then talk to us before you commit a substitution to a drawing.
